Good hair health enhances the overall personality of an individual. It also reflects good health of the individual.

Most people are not lucky enough to have healthy, thick and shiny hair. There are several reasons for this. One of the main reasons is that hair does not get proper care from the beginning. If you neglect your hair for a long time, they turn brittle and the end result is split ends and dandruff. This ultimately results in hair loss.

According to several studies, the main cause of hair loss is genetic. Other factors include the following:

a) Poor diet

b) Overuse of hair dye

c) Hormonal deficiencies

d) Vitamin deficiencies

e) General health problems

f) Physical stress

g) Emotional stress

Hair loss is not fatal. However, it results in great negative impact on the overall personality. One may also feel depressed. Here are some superb tips to reduce hair loss to help you combat this problem.

a) Diet

The most important thing you need to remember is that diet plays a major role in developing healthy scalp and hair. You need to focus on a nutritious diet including all the essential vitamins and minerals. Try to include a lot of green, leafy vegetables, whole grains cereals, raw oats, dates, eggs and raisins in your daily diet schedule.

Hair is made up of protein. Hence, you need to focus on protein rich diet to take good care of it. These include wheat germ, calves liver and brewer's yeast. Try to include outer coverings of potatoes, cucumbers, red and green peppers as these are rich in silica that is important to maintain the strength and beauty of hair. Vitamin E is equally important to promote hair growth and reduction in hair fall.

b) Washing regime

The cleansing regime should be based on your hair type. If you have oily hair, you may need a hair wash daily. People with dry hair can wash it twice a week. Make sure that you do not use too hot or too cold water to wash your hair. Use finger tips to clean or massage your hair.

c) Combing

Always use a wide tooth comb to untangle your hair. The comb should be used in downward direction. Wooden or tortoise shell comb are good. Do not comb wet hair as wet hairs are more vulnerable to breakage.

d) Drying the hair

Dry your hair naturally. Blow dryer can damage your hair.

e) Conditioner

Use a good conditioner to protect your hair from harsh effects of the sun, sea water and chlorine. Also wear a cap when going out in the sun, chlorinated water and pollution.

f) Sleeping pattern

Comb your hair while going to bed and remove all the bands and clips. If possible, use a satin pillow case.

g) Harsh chemicals

Stay away from permanent hair color and perms.

h) Alcohol and smoking
